Spread over Cap Diamant and the banks of the St Lawrence, QUBEC CITY is Canada's most
beautifully located and most historic city. Highlights are in the upper and lower portions
of what is known as Vieux-Qubec (Old Qubec).
It was the first time that we felt we went to the other country after we came to the
States. Most of the people can only speak French, or only willing to speak French. It is
an authentically and profoundly French city: 96 percent of its 500,000 population are
French-speaking.

The second part of the city, the Basse-ville (or Lower Town) is connected to Haute-Ville
by funicular or by several windy streets and stairs. The winding cobbled streets are
flanked by seventeenth- and eighteenth-century stone houses and churches, graceful parks
and squares, and countless monuments.
