After the long 360 miles driving from Denver, we finally got to Arches National Park
which is located in southeast Utah. As soon as we drove into the park, we found ourselves
in a world of stone and sky, where between the eye and the horizon lies a colorful
panorama of buttes, canyons and plateaus. We were told that there are over 1000 of arches
in the park, ranging in size from Landscape Arch (with an 89 meter span) to small openings
3 feet across - this is the minimum dimension for them to be officially classified as an
arch. However, the most famous arch is the - Delicate Arch which is adopted as the state
symbol of Utah.

Arches National Park contains one of the largest concentrations of natural
sandstone arches in the world. The arches and numerous other extraordinary geologic
features, such as spires, pinnacles, pedestals and balanced rocks, are highlighted in
striking foreground and background views created by contrasting colors, landforms and
textures.

"If Delicate Arch has any significance it lies, I will venture, in
the power of the odd and unexpected to startle the senses and surprise the mind out of
their ruts of habit, to compel us into a reawakened awareness of the wonderful - that
which is full of wonder." Edward Abbey in Desert Solitaire |
