1999

Year 1999, the last year of this 20th century, is almost gone, and the new millennium is right around the corner. We wish all of you having a very happy holiday and a great start of the new millennium.

This year, we have shared lots of our friends' happiness- getting married, having babies, finding new love, finishing schools, changing new jobs. Although we didn't see ourselves to have any major achievements or reach any new milestones this year, we sure have had a very happy 1999.

In May, we traveled to Europe for the first time and made our childhood dreams come true. In over two weeks, we visited Paris, Milan, Venice, Florence, Pisa and Rome. Eiffel Tower, Pisa Leaning Tower, Gondola Ride, Mona Lisa, Last Supper, Arch of Triumph, Museum of Loure, Coliseum, Roman Forum, fairy tale castles are all our childhood images of Europe. In this trip, we realized life is so short. We learned to take things easy and cherish the current moments.

In August, Janet got an offer from Providian and left PeopleSoft. Between her jobs, we managed to take a week off and had a scuba diving vacation in Caribbean. We first went to Cozumel for Scuba diving, second best diving place after Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The wall dives and drift dives were fabulous and the colorful reefs and tropical fishes were fascinating. After 10 dives in three days, we were exhausted and went to Cancun to relax and just enjoy the sun and sand.

This year we also did lots of backpacking trips for preparing crossing Grand Canyon that was originally scheduled in September. Unfortunately, flood destroyed the trail, we couldn't go on as planned. Maybe in the next millennium.

1999-2000 ski season has started. We bought the season passes in Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort. Joe has reached his black-diamond level of snowboarding. Janet just wishes she would overcome her fears toward steep slope and have a breakthrough.

Recently, we just finished first draft of our homepage, a long overdue project.  There may still be typos. It is no way near perfect and not yet finished and it will never be. It would just like our lifelong journey---keep changing. Please check it out. We welcome comments.              http://www.geocities.com/joeandjanet0/

Life is so wonderful, is it not? Enjoy your millennium no matter where you are. It would be only once in our lifetime to experience this very symbolic moment. We would not be totally different persons in the new millennium, but we sure hope we can be better persons and live happier.

We will be leaving for China on Dec. 24 and coming back on Jan. 9. See you in the next millennium.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Happy New Millennium!
